Environmental Racism / Environmental Justice

I am at the very beginning and in the early research stage of my dissertation project focusing on the problem of environmental racism/environmental justice.
Environmental racism and environmental justice deal with environmental regulations, environmental pollution and burdens, as well as the exclusion from environmental decision making processes based on racial and social discrimination. The two problems refer to governmental policies, institutional rules, and corporate decisions, among other things, that target racial and social minority communities with the result that, e.g., they are disproportionately exposed to toxic and hazardous wastes.
With my dissertation project, I will focus on an area in the south of the United States. By conducting a case study, I will examine historical processes, stakeholders and their relationships, as well as the impact of racism and social stratification from a historical/cultural studies perspective.
